Through Donorschoose.org Mary and I have had the pleasure to support many projects in our public schools that help to educate children about the oceans of the world. In partnership with other Ocean bloggers and the Oceans in the Classroom Initiative we have fully funded science projects from ocean floor spreading in Arkansas to invertebrate aquariums in Texas and breaking science news in Michigan. Kids are learning science of the ocean and we love receiving letters and photos from the children. Below is an update from Mrs. D's 6th grade class in Arkansas and photos of the children working with their sea floor spreading toolkit.Dear Timothy,
Thank you so much for your generous donations to fund our Sea Floor Spreading Project. The students have enjoyed getting to us the model. They helped me set it up and get it running. It has certainly given them a hands on experience greater than reading about the Sea Floor Spreading that takes place under the ocean. The model has allowed the students to identify the points of interest on the sea floor that they have been studying. Seeing the model in motion, I believe has given the students a better understanding of how these landforms were created. Thanks again, for supplying these young students with hands-on materials to increase their learning.
With gratitude,
Mrs. D.
