The Wall at West Cay - A Virtual Dive

With Casio at the helm our skiff flew over the surface of the water heading west past Moonhole to a barren spit of rock known as West Cay. I pulled my hat down over my head and put my mask on so I could see into the wind. Mary looked over at me and laughed! What the hell it worked and I was the only one on the boat with a camera so you will just have to imagine what I looked like.

In case you are wondering Moonhole is a large natural arch, in Bequia, that an idealistic American, back in the 1960’s named Tom Johnson, decided would be a good place to build dwellings under. Only problem was he didn’t ask Mother Nature and she got a little peeved and started making rocks fall down so that now you have this wonderful creation of nature with ugly abandoned man made buildings in it. It is interesting to look at and I understand there is a dive site called Moonhole nearby but we did not dive it.

Laury Stowe is our dive guide and part owner of Bequia Dive Adventures. A native of Bequia he sports a black do-rag on his head, a gold chain around his neck and a permanent smile on his face. When Laury asked if we wanted to dive a wall I quickly said yes not really knowing if it was a good dive but Laury had said it was a nice wall and that was enough for me.

This turned out to be a wonderful wall with beautiful vibrant colors and a diverse variety of healthy coral and reef life.  What a pleasant surprise this wall dive was and I want to share it with you through a virtual dive of the Wall at West Cay.

At the bottom of the the wall are large schools of Chubs and Black Margate.  See what it is like.
