My project will expose students to current events in Science through Weekly Reader's "Current Science" magazine. Most of my students are from impoverished backgrounds and have received few chances of being exposed to current events. Most of the households do not receive newspapers. I want to use "Current Science" Weekly Reader to make science more relevant to students. Each issue covers covers every area of the science curriculum—life, earth, and physical science, plus health and technology. Content reinforces National Science Education standards. Inquiry-based learning activities make science come alive and excite students' interests. There are also cross-curricular activities that build reading comprehension, math, critical thinking, writing, and vocabulary skills. Therefore, I will connect science across the curriculum.
Students will cooperatively read the Weekly Reader and discuss its content in groups and will follow up with reports on the newsletter's contents.
No child should not be left behind. This would really supplement my curriculum which is lacking in current textbooks. Please give my students the chance to enhance their knowledge of science and connect it to the real world.
Dear Timothy,
I can't thank you enough for funding the "Breaking Science News" project. It is great to see that you realize the importance of science in the education of our youth.
Your generous donation allowed me to supplement my curriculum with current science topics and news. My students had the chance to enhance their knowledge of science and connect it to the real world. They were extremely excited to receive each and every issue. It is wonderful to see them so excited about science and about reading.
My students and I are extremely grateful. Thank you so much for making a difference in the lives of children.
