Having great managers is one of the reasons this resort is so popular with divers. Speaking of great managers, Liz Wayne was awesome. Mary and I first met Liz in Utila at Troy Bodden’s Laguna Beach Resort. We have been there three times over the last decade but we had never had a manager that actually dove with us and she was a fantastic critter finder. She knew we wanted to see little critters and she found several NIB (not in book) for us. Needless to say we were very excited. In 2005 we met up with Liz again at CoCo View when hurricane Wilma hit the island. Liz is a fantastic and lovely lady but James tells me that Mitch and Deb are doing a great job so Coco View is in good hands.
Anyway I am always excited to hear James tell about his adventures, he is a great story teller, and on this trip he actually caught a lionfish. The dive guides had been spearing lionfish throughout the week and on one occasion had tried twice to spear a small one but missed. Toward the end of the dive James found the lionfish but the dive guides had returned to the boat so James went up to the boat got a net and returned to capture the lionfish.
The really funny part of the story was that there was a researcher from Alabama at the resort so the nets were the color of the University of Alabama. James, being from Louisiana and of course a Louisiana State University fan, a great and glorious rival of Alabama, decided to dedicate his capture to LSU and of course the Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints!
Mary and I are looking forward to meeting up with James next week to dive with him in Perky Lake, Texas. Cold water, no coral, no color nor tropical fish but we will have a great time!
